Photo Friday - Critters
Photo Friday - Critters: Since this is to be my first submission, I think I was trying too hard to compose the "perfect" shot. I probably won't find it, or if I do, it will probably be after the week is up. Anyway, without further adieu, I submit the following photo.

Any idea on what kind of bird this is?

It's a brown-breasted warblehawk. VERY rare. You should send it to the American Bird Conservancy, along with where you saw it, what time, and whether it tasted sweet or salty. Its the only way to sex them. Be very careful around them, they tend to spontaneously combust when threatened, and rather explosively at that.

My Peterson field guide to western birds suggests that it's an immature Black-crowned Night Heron. Nice shot.
